The Men’s Breakfast Group comprises people [all men] who come together once a month for a chat, to listen to a speaker and to enjoy a good breakfast.
We start at 8am with ‘grace’ which we sing, (a well-known chorus) and then line up for our food. Breakfast consists of sausages; bacon; scrambled egg; tomatoes; baked beans and toast accompanied by tea or coffee. On some occasions when our cooks are not available we have a ‘continental’ breakfast with fresh fruit; cereals; yogurt; croissants; toast with preserves; pastries; washed down with either real coffee or tea from a teapot.
Our speakers vary considerably. Over the six years we have been going we have enjoyed speakers from very many walks of life. These include the church [obviously]; people from charities; local historians; a geological professor; landed gentry; officers of the law; and, perhaps the most interesting of all are members of the group who have something they want to share. It is amazing just much people carry with them and it is truly lovely to hear their stories.
It is our intention to finish by 9:15 as we all have things to do on a Saturday morning. I can always trust that several of our number will stay behind to assist with the washing up but even then, we are ready to depart by 9:45.
We meet at St. Michael’s Church Hall [on the corner of Homestead Road and Birchwood in Hatfield] on the first Saturday of every month. Our members are men from all of our churches in Hatfield and surrounding district and some from no church.
So, what is the cost of this magnificent repast? I ask for a donation of £3 but if you would like to put in a bit more I do not complain. Any money over is given to projects at one of our churches or to a charity.
If you would like to come along then please get in touch with me at my email address and I will send you a notice each month to which I ask you to respond to tell me if you are coming or not, just so our catering department can purchase accordingly.
Men are not known to share in chatter. This is a great opportunity to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
