IICSA report on child abuse

You may be aware of the recent publication of a report into child abuse in the Church of England. We at St. Etheldreda with St. Luke are appalled by the conclusions of the report and the horrific experiences  some have had to endure. We want you to know that we stand shoulder to shoulder with survivors of abuse whether recent or historic, and we strongly encourage ANYONE who feels they are the subject of abuse or who has concerns about others to get in touch with us, in confidence. We have a dedicated Safeguarding Officer, Caroline Roberts (barleycroftgreen@hotmail.com) and Fr Darren (frdarren@yahoo.co.uk) or our curate Kathryn (alfordkathryn@gmail.com) can be contacted at any time.

At St. Etheldreda’s and St. Luke’s we think of ourselves as a welcoming, inclusive and loving congregation offering ongoing development of faith and worship in safe spaces. All people in positions of responsibility within our church have been DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked, and all members of  the PCC (Parochial Church Council) have undergone safeguarding training. We also have a pastoral care team, whose work includes identifying anyone who looks like they may be in need of support.

Our main purpose is to worship God, serve our community and grow in faith, and we very much hope that these words might offer some reassurance that St Etheldreda’s and St. Luke’s remain safe and supportive places where we can all continue to worship with confidence.
